Team Aurora is working to expand who gets to compete at the highest levels of sailing. Ten women from five nations have come together through a global network of sailors, bringing different backgrounds and experience to one team. With Lena Weißkichel at the helm, they are building the trust, communication and precision it takes to compete together at an elite level. Their first major start line is the 2026 New York Yacht Club Women’s International Championship in Newport, Rhode Island. Aurora will race in the club’s one-design IC37 fleet against 20 international women’s teams. Reaching that start line means turning a team spread across countries and time zones into a cohesive crew through coaching, training blocks and focused time on the water. Beyond Newport, Team Aurora is working toward an all-women campaign for the 2027 Transpac. The plan is to train on the West Coast, build offshore miles through preparatory races and develop the systems and teamwork required for the 2,225-mile passage from Los Angeles to Honolulu. Aurora wants the campaign to open doors as well as cross finish lines. Offshore clinics will give more women the chance to learn specialized skills, gain meaningful sea miles and build confidence in demanding racing environments. Support for the team helps turn ambition into training days, coaching, travel, race entries and safe, well-prepared miles at sea—and creates opportunities that can reach well beyond the race crew.
