Thirty-Seven teams from ten countries gathered in Corpus Christi, TX to compete in The 2019 Citgo Etchells World Championship. After qualification at the North American Championships in May and BBYRA series last winter, The US Etchells Youth Team earned two berths to compete.

Representing the USEYT on Team Resolute (USA 1000) were skipper Michael Morley, and USEYT Co-captain Lars Osell joined by guest sailors Chuck Eaton and Parker Mitchell. At the young age of 15, Skipper Michael Morley was the youngest sailor involved in the event. Together Morley and team sailed to an impressive 25th of 37 boats and showed consistent improvement throughout the event ending with their best finish of 15 th on the last day.

Sailing for the USEYT on USA 1208 was skipper Bradley Adam with crew Chris Manson-Hing, Patrick Shanahan, and Brooks Daley. The team sailed a strong series evidenced by a fourth place finish in race six. After spending most of two months in Texas training, the hard work of this team paid off, with a finish of 19 th overall, they defended the Olin Stephens trophy and were crowned Etchells Youth World Champions. The Worlds presented a great experience for our sailors to experience all that the Etchells class has to offer, camaraderie, mentorship, intense competition, and a plethora of opportunities to learn.

It was our pleasure to host the UK Etchells Youth Team, skippered by William Bedford. We competed against the Brits for the coveted Olin Stephens trophy. We look forward to seeing them and more international youth teams at future events. As a team, we are extremely proud of our sailors for their performance at the event and all of the hard work and preparation they put in to achieve their goals at The 2019 World Championship. We would like to thank The Etchells Class, Regatta Organizing Committees, The Corpus Christi Yacht Club and especially Shannon Bush for putting on a great event and being so welcoming to the team.
