Sarah Newberry
Sarah Newberry Moore is an American Nacra 17 skipper, Paris 2024 Olympian, professional sailor and Level III coach from Miami, Florida. She represented the United States at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with David Liebenberg, finishing 16th in the Nacra 17, and the pair won silver at the 2023 Pan American Games. Sarah has competed in the Nacra 17 at World Championships across four Olympic cycles, with her best World Championship finish of 14th in 2020.
Sarah and Liebenberg formed USA 50 Racing in 2018 and built the campaign through the Tokyo and Paris cycles. Their 2024 World Championship result secured their win in the U.S. Olympic selection series and sent them to Marseille for the Paris Games. After Paris, Sarah committed to the Los Angeles 2028 cycle and selected Bay Area sailor Hoel Menard as her new crew.
Sarah and Hoel entered the 2026 Nacra 17 World Championship in Quiberon with fewer than 30 days in the boat together and finished 25th. They followed with 13th at Kiel Week, then moved into concentrated training blocks in Europe and San Pedro, the LA 2028 Olympic sailing venue. The campaign is focused on developing the partnership through international racing, technical training and time in the Olympic venue.
Sarah also documents the campaign through UnMoored on her Foiling Mama YouTube channel. The series follows the work behind an Olympic campaign rather than only race results, including teammate selection, training, World Championship competition, family life, recovery and the decisions that shape a return to the Games. The 2026 episodes include “School Drop-Offs and the Road to the Olympics” and “What It Takes to Race at the Sailing World Championships.”
