Mika Sternberg
Mika Sternberg is an Israeli sailor and Nacra 17 skipper campaigning toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games with ISR36. She was born in Tel Aviv, began sailing Optimists in Israel at age nine, and moved to Los Angeles in 2017. Sailing remained central to her life as she adapted to a new country and continued progressing through the American youth-sailing system.
Mika won the Israeli Optimist national championship in 2016 and, after moving to California, was selected for the USA Optimist Olympic Development Team in 2019. She progressed through Laser 4.7 and international 420 sailing, qualifying for the Laser 4.7 World Championship and racing major youth events in the United States and Europe. Those years established a broad dinghy foundation before she moved into the faster, more technical multihull pathway.
Her Olympic-class focus is now the Nacra 17, the foiling mixed multihull used at the Games. Mika has trained and raced the boat from Southern California and competed internationally in the class before forming the current ISR36 partnership with Yogev Alcalay. The team is centered on the Los Angeles 2028 cycle and trains on the same Southern California waters that will host Olympic sailing.
ISR36's stated goal is to make Los Angeles 2028 Israel's first Olympic appearance in catamaran sailing. The campaign plan calls for extensive year-round training, an international regatta schedule through 2028 and participation in the Olympic qualification process. For Mika, the project connects her Israeli sailing roots with the city where she developed much of her later racing career.
As skipper, Mika is responsible for steering, tactics and the constant communication required to race a fully foiling Nacra 17 at speed. She and Yogev are building the partnership around repeated training blocks, international competition and time on the future Olympic venue. ISR36 presents the campaign not only as an effort to qualify two sailors, but as an opportunity to establish a new Israeli pathway in Olympic catamaran sailing.
