Lauren Wilson grew up sailing in Coronado, California, beginning in Naples Sabots at age seven before moving into the Laser Radial and Europe dinghy. As a teenager she became a nationally ranked sailor and member of the U.S. Sailing Team. Her international youth career included the 2001 Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship in France, the 2001 Laser Radial World Championship in Barcelona, and an eighth-place finish at the 2002 Athens Pre-Olympic Test Event in the Europe dinghy. She then sailed for the University of Southern California from 2002 through 2006. After college, Lauren remained deeply involved in competitive sailing. She called tactics and helmed the Reichel/Pugh 52 Staghound in San Diego and later became a tactician and skipper aboard the Beneteau 36.7 Melokia. Her years in keelboats included repeated podium finishes in Southern California racing and a long record of success in the Kitty Muhl women’s regatta. In 2024 Lauren returned to the singlehanded Olympic pathway in the ILCA 6 and created Second Wind Racing. The campaign reflects a second chapter in a sailing career that began at the national-team level more than two decades earlier. In 2025 she completed a full ILCA 6 season, finished as a Top 10 female in the ILCA North America Grand Prix standings, raced the Masters World Championship in Formia, Italy, and established herself again on the national and international circuit. Her 2026 program has included the Sailing Grand Slam and major ILCA events in the United States and Europe. Results include second overall and first female at the District 24 Championship, 37th overall and 11th female at the U.S. National Championship, 52nd at Kieler Woche, and 61st at the San Pedro Olympic Classes Regatta. She has also accepted a place at the 2026 ILCA 6 Women’s World Championship in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland. Lauren is campaigning toward the U.S. Olympic selection process for Los Angeles 2028 while balancing international training and racing with family and her professional career. Through Second Wind Racing she documents the campaign, its results, and the community supporting it. The project has become both a competitive Olympic effort and a public story about returning to elite sport with experience, purpose, and a strong local base in Coronado and San Diego.
