Holiday Update - Kate Schaner

I’ve spent the past year training for the 2020 Olympic Games in the 49er FX. 2016 has been an adventure, and I’d like to take a minute to share with you some of the highlights and challenges, as well as my future plans.

I am proud to say I spent over 300 days on the water this year. My training took me from coast to coast, putting in long hours in Miami, Long Beach, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, and Long Island Sound.

I began competing on the Sailing World Cup Tour, and traveled to the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and Portugal this summer and qualified for Gold Fleet at Kiel Week. I also was lucky to get the chance to race in the 2020 Olympic Venue in Enoshima, Japan this fall.

I have lived out of a suitcase for eighteen months. I broke bones, masts, sails, boats, and power tools and became a far better sailor in the process. I couldn’t be happier to be where I am now. I love what I do, and am so excited to keep learning.

This fall I began training with a new crew, Charlotte Mack, and we are excited to continue our training in preparation for the Miami World Cup this January. Follow our adventures at shanermacksailing.com or on Instagram at @shaner.mack.sailing

Thank you all so much for your continued support as I work toward my Olympic Dream. Happy Holidays!
