The 29er came about due to the increasingly apparent need for a high performance youth boat following the success of the skiff type boats spearheaded by the 49er. The 29er is recognized internationally as the ideal skiff for youth racers. Since 1999, the 29er has grown into the leading high performance youth boat in the world today. The Youth World Championships in 2002 were sailed in 29ers, bringing the boat into the mainstream. The 29er has been selected again for the 2007 Youth Worlds, creating an increased demand for fleet expansion and the opportunity for new talent to compete at the highest level of competition.
The Skiff Sailing Foundation strives to provide access to 29ers to youth teams looking to get into skiff sailing. SSF has been involved with 29er youth clinics for many years and also owns some 29ers that are available for short or long-term charter.
Our Next 29er Clinic will be at the Richmond YC August 6-10
